The Heal Power of Nature

I picked out some plants while I was doing my Easter shopping. It wasn’t expected, I was just in that mood. Gardening was something I never really had the patience for. My family would do it growing up but the toil was just too much for me. I also don’t enjoy spending that much time in the heat, getting dirty all-098with the possibility of it not even working out. But I decided this year I wanted some garden-fresh herbs and pretty flowers. I wanted to garden this year.

Yesterday, we unexpectedly went to Home Depot after church to get stuff for the garden. I was still in my dressy church clothes on that windy day spring New Jersey day. But we got what we needed, got home and went to work.

My family and I spent the day outside in the Earth and it was amazing. Like I said, I'm not super outdoorsy. I’m much more of a “read a book and sip coffee in a climate controlled building kind of gal.” I don’t feel comfortable out in the elements and getting dirty. But when the weather and feeling is right, it makes me feel amazing.

Nature is healing. It feels wonderful to connect with Earth and it’s natural properties. Nature brings connection and it brings us to a place where we should be more often. Our generation in particular is very consumed. We are so connected that we are disconnected from what matters and what makes us feel good. We spend our time living a life that isn’t necessarily made for us. By all means, we don’t really have much of a choice. We have to work, use technology, make money and worry about materialistic items. We don’t have the time to always be frolicking through the flowers. But when get the chance, spending time in nature has a healing impact that we can’t ignore.

Touch the soil, feel the sun. Breathe the air, touch the rain, listen to the birds sing and try if you can to disconnect from technology. Plant a flower or grow some herbs, fruits or vegetables. Even if you’re aren’t too outdoorsy like me or live in an urban area, make sure you take time to connect with nature.

Funnily enough, last year I wrote the following Facebook post:

“I truly believe nature is the one thing in life that has higher healing qualities.

If you are sad, angry or stressed, try looking out water or sitting in the woods. The issue with modern day is that we try to remove ourselves from it. But you can’t deny the benefits of it.

I’ve spent many times looking at the lake after a long day and I felt the stress float away. Nature connects us to who we are at our core and eliminates the external noise that blocks us from experience that feeling of happiness and peace. It’s so important to connect with ourselves like that.”

There is a lot of noise in the world today. We have so many demands in our modern world. Sometimes we just need to step back from it all. Sometimes we need to take that time to beat the disassociation from our lives. Get outside-your mental health will thank you! Enjoy and feel the healing impact of it!
