Anxiety and Life Changes

As we wrap up summer, many feelings are circulating around. If you are like me and love Fall, you’re probably excited for what’s to come these new few months. Some people may be sad to see summer go. Whatever way you feel, it’s is a time of change. It’s back to school season, people are starting college and other life transtions. This time year can feel overwhelming for various reasons.

Many people are talking about back to school. They are sharing their excitements and concerns for this new beginning. I see so many people sharing their worries about their child getting bullied, adjusting to new classes or just feel accepted in a new environment. The kids are feeling it too but may express it in different ways like acting out and anger. Some people may be more withdrawn during these times while others may find comfort in their social circle. However, some might “feed off” the concerns of their peers. This can be increased when it’s online and in our faces 24/7. Although community is helpful, too much exposure can make it worse. This can bring on feelings of anxiety and depression to monitor. However, it’s important to validate this as normal emotions.

It’s helpful to understand this is the cycle of life and we are always shifiting parts of our lives. Season changes can mpact our mental health even though we experience it every year. Limiting online use and staying present and grounded can soothe the nervous system. Finding balance between confining in a trusted social circle and reflection is helpful for us to navigate these emotions.

It sounds so easy to just say “be positive.” It can be difficult to be optimisitic when there’s so much we feel can “go wrong.” However, it’s helpful to see what is actually making us anxious as well as excited. Having too many many thoughts shifting through our heads can be extremely overwhelming and takes away from the clairty to see all this through. Try writing down or even mindfully focusing on these thoughts. It helps to narrow it down instead of having a storm of emotions. on our nervous system.

Here’s to a fresh start, new beginnings and new memories to make. Here’s to validating our feelings and recognizing this is all part of life. Work through these feelings with your family and friends and always communicate what’s going on. Encourage others to practice effective communication with each other too. It’s hard to keep all this inside, so instead share what’s on your mind. I’m wishning everyone a healthy and wonderful new start that’s to come!
